The best wardrobe systems from a Home Organiser and a Personal Stylist

A well-organised wardrobe isn’t always about owning less.

It’s about making what you already have easier to see, access and wear. Your wardrobe needs to work hard for you!

I got together with Personal Stylist Karina Taylor to come up with some useful tips that could help you organise your wardrobes and drawers and look great whilst you’re at it!

First up, some simple pointers from me to help you get there.

Use your wardrobe space wisely.

The most accessible areas of your wardrobe should be reserved for your most frequently worn items. Sit your everyday clothing at eye level and within easy reach. Occasional wear can be stored higher up, further back, or even in a second wardrobe if you have one.

Group similar items together.

This instantly creates calm and makes outfit choices quicker on busy mornings. You might separate tops, trousers, dresses and so on, or organise by complete outfits if that works better for you. The key is clarity — being able to see what you own at a glance and reducing that decision fatigue.

Avoid overfilling your wardrobe rails.

Clothes need breathing space so you can see, move and get to them easily. If you’re constantly wrestling to pull things out, the system isn’t working. Matching hangers can make a huge difference — slim velvet hangers are great for saving space and preventing slips, while sturdier wooden ones are better for heavier items like coats and knitwear.

Treat drawers as organised compartments rather than a hidden dumping ground.

Use simple dividers or small laundry bags to keep categories like underwear, socks or accessories under control, and avoid overstuffing so everything opens and closes easily.

Give every item a clear “home”.

If something doesn’t have a set place, it will end up anywhere. Keep categories simple and practical — gym wear, nightwear, bags, and so on. The more complicated your storage method, the more likely it will fail.
Finally, store shoes where you can see and get to them, and keep accessories grouped in trays or boxes so they don’t drift. The easier things are to find and put away, the more likely your system is to work.
